About The Position

The Software Engineer III will support the Chugach Technical Program Manager and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) team by providing expertise in Command and Control (C2) and C4ISR systems. The Software Engineer 3 will provide day-to-day engineering support to NIWC. Support includes Software Installation and Fleet-wide assistance. The position requires an experienced Specialist to support the project. Travel up 30% CONUS/OCONUS. Work Model: Onsite/In-Office

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Sciences or Engineering Field.
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Active DOD Secret security clearance.
  • CompTIA Security + or high.
  • RHEL or Windows administrator certifications.
  • Seven (7) years of C4ISR or DOD related experience.
  • Experience with the Sea Commander System or Navy C2 Systems.
  • Willing to travel up to 30% CONUS/OCONUS.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing, integrating, and sustaining software in Linux-based environments.
  • Confident in operating system configuration, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with virtualization and container technologies.
  • Proficiency with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell) to support system administration and deployment activities.

Responsibilities

  • USCG C2 Software Integration and Sustainment Support
  • Works in collaboration with government, engineering, and operational stakeholders to design, integrate, test, and sustain USCG Command and Control (C2) and C4ISR systems.
  • Provides technical engineering support across the system lifecycle, including software development, integration, and testing of prototype and fielded systems.
  • Provide engineering support for installation, configuration, and integration efforts aboard USCG assets and sites.
  • Develops, executes, and supports Onsite Configuration Requests (OCRs) for USCG C2 systems.
  • Maintains laboratory and deployed asset software configurations, ensuring alignment with approved baselines.
  • Evaluates new software solutions, operating environments, and technologies, and determines potential impacts to existing USCG systems.
  • Applies working knowledge of multiple operating environments, including Linux, Linux Containers, Windows, and VMware, to support system development and deployment.
  • Provides issue resolution for USCG C4ISR Systems
  • Provides remote and fly-away technical support to USCG assets as mission requirements dictate.
  • Applies analytical and problem-solving skills to assess system performance, analyze test data, and resolve technical deficiencies.
  • Supports cybersecurity compliance efforts by applying knowledge of cybersecurity tools, technologies, and processes such as IDS/IPS, SIEM, ACAS/Nessus, and RMF (as applicable).
  • USCG C2 Software Configuration Management and Documentation
  • Responsible for maintaining, reviewing, and updating technical documentation
  • Ensures software installation instructions are current for all builds and provide clear technical feedback to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains software guides, technical workarounds, and sustainment documentation for C4ISR systems.
  • Creates and reviews Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and other technical documentation, providing detailed technical assessments and recommendations.
  • Conducts specification and requirements reviews to ensure system changes meet objectives.
  • Ensure engineering tasks are properly prioritized and executed with a strong sense of urgency, demonstrating effective organizational and task-management skills.
  • Accountable For:
  • Extensive knowledge of C4ISR systems, including integration, sustainment, and support.
  • Strong understanding of software lifecycle management and configuration management.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to operating systems, virtualization, and containerization.
  • Knowledge of test and evaluation processes.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity tools, technologies, and compliance processes
  • Ability to collaborate well in team environments and work independently.
  • Ability to meet mission and operational requirements by supporting installations, configurations, and testing aboard USCG assets and shore-based facilities.
  • Ability to exercise sound technical judgment when evaluating new software solutions and determining impacts to existing system baselines.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple engineering tasks while maintaining a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail especially while on travel.
