About The Position

Node Platform owns the services that deploy, protect, configure, and schedule the foundational layers of software, including firmware, operating systems, and the components underlying Compute Infrastructure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP0, for Google’s planet-scale fleet of production machines.

We are currently looking for a talented and enthusiastic software engineer to join our team and work with us on expanding our service offerings to ever-further reaches of the node ecosystem. This improves the overall usability of the Node Platform and enables new Cloud applications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with C++ or Go.
• 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
• 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience working with customers.
• Ability to be a good team player.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, implement and test APIs and large-scale distributed backend systems to deploy, protect, configure, and schedule Node Software across Google’s production fleet.
• Work closely with SRE to proactively ensure quality and performance.
• Gather requirements from component maintainers, service owners, release coordinators, and other stakeholders, and create innovative tools and solutions to make their jobs easier and move key metrics.
• Key player in the deployment of the latest custom-built Google hardware, and in all phases of the machine fleet lifecycle, from turning up to repairs to decommission.
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
