Job Description: This job is responsible for developing and delivering complex requirements to accomplish business goals. Key responsibilities of the job include ensuring that software is developed to meet functional, non-functional and compliance requirements, and solutions are well designed with maintainability/ease of integration and testing built-in from the outset. Job expectations include a strong knowledge of development and testing practices common to the industry and design and architectural patterns. LOB Summary: We are seeking an exceptional Software Engineer III to join our Reference Data Technology organization. This role is targeted at top‑tier engineers with a proven history of tackling complex engineering challenges, thinking creatively, and delivering high‑impact technical solutions. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, learns quickly, and operates effectively with minimal supervision. As a technical leader, you will drive the development of horizontally scalable, high‑performance applications central to the Bank’s Reference Data platforms for Client, Accounts and Instrument data. You will work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams while also demonstrating deep ownership and strong technical decision‑making.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands‑on software development experience in a 3rd‑generation language such as Scala, Java, or Python.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with a track record of delivering innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in collaborative Agile environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies, business workflows, and data models.
  • Experience building or maintaining distributed applications, data platforms, or enterprise‑scale systems.
  • Working experience developing REST‑based services.
  • Scala or Java (ideally both)
  • Strong willingness and aptitude to learn RDF and Semantic Web technologies

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Scala and functional programming paradigms.
  • Exposure to Apache Spark, Hive, Cloudera, or other distributed computing stacks.
  • Familiarity with Semantic Web technologies such as RDF and SPARQL.
  • Experience with graph technologies and graph‑based data modeling.
  • Background with Zookeeper, Storm, HDFS, or similar distributed frameworks.
  • Experience with automation and testing frameworks (Selenium, Cucumber).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD workflows, test‑driven development, and automation pipelines.
  • Experience supporting mission‑critical, high‑availability systems in fast‑paced environments.
  • Familiarity with GenAI or AI‑driven engineering is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Codes solutions and unit test to deliver a requirement/story per the defined acceptance criteria and compliance requirements
  • Designs, develops, and modifies architecture components, application interfaces, and solution enablers while ensuring principal architecture integrity is maintained
  • Mentors other software engineers and coach team on Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CI-CD) practices and automating tool stack
  • Executes story refinement, definition of requirements, and estimating work necessary to realize a story through the delivery lifecycle
  • Performs spike/proof of concept as necessary to mitigate risk or implement new ideas
  • Automates manual release activities
  • Designs, develops, and maintains automated test suites (integration, regression, performance)
  • Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of mission‑critical Reference Data applications.
  • Architect and optimize distributed, scalable, and high‑performance systems.
  • Champion engineering excellence, including code quality, automation, test‑driven development, and CI/CD practices.
  • Engage with business, product, and data teams to gather requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
  • Quickly learn and apply new technologies, business concepts, and data domains essential to Reference Data.
