About The Position

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. The Geo Relevance Insights and Targeting team runs Google’s Geo Targeting system from an infrastructure and modeling perspective. Geo Targeting is part of Search Ads the text ads shown on Google Search that power the majority of Google’s business and connect millions of businesses to their customers. Specifically, we are a targeting team which means we select the ad candidates that enter the auction. Ads winning the auction show up on Google Search. Our main focus is to optimally match the location intent of users and advertisers. In this role, you will develop aspects of Geo Targeting, including product, infrastructure and machine learning models. You will build geo-centric machine models for matching user location interest with advertiser geo intent and conduct Ads experiments, data analysis and product launches. Google Ads is helping power the open internet with the best technology that connects and creates value for people, publishers, advertisers, and Google. We’re made up of multiple teams, building Google’s Advertising products including search, display, shopping, travel and video advertising, as well as analytics. Our teams create trusted experiences between people and businesses with useful ads. We help grow businesses of all sizes from small businesses, to large brands, to YouTube creators, with effective advertiser tools that deliver measurable results. We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience programming in C++.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience with Machine Learning.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high quality, robust and maintainable solutions on Google infrastructure.
  • Design and build systems to process advertiser data and Ads logs, analyze advertiser’s usage of geo locations.
  • Build geo-centric machine models for matching user location interest with advertiser geo intent.
  • Modify the Ads targeting back-end to integrate geo targeting innovations with the keyword targeting systems.
  • Conduct Ads experiments, data analysis and product launches.
