About the position

The Software Engineer III, Frontend Platforms at Wayfair is responsible for developing and maintaining scalable front-end applications that enhance the customer shopping experience. This hybrid role requires collaboration with various teams to implement innovative solutions using technologies like React and Next.js, while also optimizing performance and build processes. The position emphasizes problem-solving in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the overall frontend platform, and ensuring that the code impacts millions of customers daily.

Responsibilities

  • Write thoughtful, scalable, and performant React, CSS, and HTML code to build and test new features.
  • Develop and maintain scalable front end applications using Next.js and React.
  • Optimize build processes and performance.
  • Optimize bundling using webpack and turborepo.
  • Enhance developer tooling and workflows to streamline development processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to front end performance and compatibility.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and advocate for best practices within the team.
  • Make decisions and direct projects that influence how customers shop at Wayfair.
  • Contribute to decisions, initiatives, and coding patterns that influence the broader frontend platform at Wayfair.
  • Write code that is seen by millions of customers a day.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Next.js and React with demonstrable experience in developing large-scale applications.
  • A deep understanding of JavaScript state management libraries, such as Redux, MobX, or Apollo.
  • Experience in designing and implementing developer tooling, such as CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and code quality tools.
  • Solid understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Up-to-date on the latest frontend and design technology, trends, and industry news.
  • A genuine believer in constructive and respectful code reviews, retros, and collaborative problem-solving.
