The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience building developer tools (e.g., compilers, automated releases, code design and testing, test automation frameworks).
  • 2 years of experience building and scaling distributed services with a focus on reliability, security, and performance.
  • 2 years of experience in software development, with experience in C++ or Go.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • Experience with high-scale relational/non-relational database systems.
  • Experience developing user interfaces or command line interface (CLI) tools that simplify complex back-end workflows and improve the developer experience.
  • Experience navigating both internal developer platforms and GCP (e.g., GCE, cloud networking, IAM) to build cross-platform solutions.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional engineering teams to gather requirements, resolve pain points, and drive the adoption of new infrastructure.
  • Ability to manage technical debt and improve code health (e.g., through code reviews, design docs, and refactoring) across a shared codebase.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable tools and infrastructure that bridge internal developer platforms and GCP, directly optimizing the end-to-end Spanner release lifecycle.
  • Drive developer productivity by automating manual workflows and streamlining CI/CD processes to ensure high-frequency, low-risk releases.
  • Identify bottlenecks in the development ecosystem proactively and integrate modern engineering patterns/tooling (e.g., AI/agent) to keep Spanner’s infrastructure at the cutting edge.
  • Partner with Spanner’s core database engine teams to gather requirements, diagnose pain points, and lead the adoption of new EngProd tooling.
  • Focus on delivering measurable improvements in release reliability and system health.
