About the position

As part of Zoro’s Foundational Engineering group, the Cloud Platform team plays a crucial role in building, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure, automation, and tools that power zoro.com. We’re looking for a Software Engineer II who has experience in software development and cloud engineering, is comfortable with Infrastructure as Code, and can contribute to reliable, scalable cloud-based solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, and maintain software applications, focusing on performance, security, and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into effective software solutions.
  • Contribute to Infrastructure as Code efforts, supporting and enhancing automated provisioning and configuration of cloud infrastructure while leveraging tools such as Spacelift.
  • Work with monitoring and logging tools, such as Datadog, to maintain visibility into application health and troubleshoot issues proactively.
  • Engage in code reviews, helping to maintain code quality and alignment with coding standards.
  • Assist in creating and updating technical documentation, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
  • Work closely with security engineers to design and implement effective security strategies.
  • Participate in the Level 2 Support rotation, collaborating with stakeholders to address requests that require manual work or process improvements beyond the capabilities of our current tools.
  • Partner with stakeholders to execute tasks or enhancements that our tools don't yet facilitate, gathering insights to inform future development priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering or a related role.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP (GCP preferred).
  • Proficiency in the Python programming language.
  • Expertise in infrastructure automation tools like Terraform.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code utilities such as Spacelift and Terragrunt.
  • Working experience with observability platforms (e.g., Datadog) for maintaining and diagnosing application performance.
