Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is reimagining ways to create magical viewing experiences for the world's most beloved stories while transforming Disney's media business for the future. The Software Engineer II will be part of the Living Room Devices, Browser Based Device, Client Application Engineering Team, helping to push the boundaries of what is possible on some of the most interesting 10-foot devices and TVs in the marketplace. This role involves building Direct-to-Consumer client apps such as Disney+, Star+, ESPN, and Hulu on a wide range of devices that run on browser and JavaScript technologies. The position is onsite four days per week in one of the specified technology locations.

  • Rapidly prototype and implement scalable, reliable, and maintainable media applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, and other web development technologies.
  • Work closely with UX designers, product managers, and engineering leadership to build best-of-class, delightful streaming experiences.
  • Collaborate with other developers to build, review, and deliver modern media applications to Samsung, LG, and other streaming-media devices.
  • Use data and experimentation to reinforce the value of new product functionality, ensuring the best experience possible for viewers and continuously improving applications.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in front-end application development with proficiency in writing optimized JavaScript (ES5 & ES6) and TypeScript with a low memory footprint.
  • Leadership skills, ability to identify problems and drive towards solutions, eagerness to learn and teach new technologies & solve novel problems.
  • Experience building browser-based applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, Preact/React, and Redux.
  • A deep understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, etc.).
  • Experience developing sophisticated user interfaces in a large and organized codebase.
  • Work samples demonstrating experience in building great user interfaces.
  • Experience with common development tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Webpack, AWS, Confluence, JIRA.
  • Experience building applications backed by web-services.
  • Experience developing for Samsung, LG, or similar devices.
  • Launched or worked on an international product.
  • Strong experience with Scrum methodology.
  • Base salary range of $120,300 - $161,300.
  • Bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
