We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer who is passionate about creating exceptional user experiences using Golang, gRPC based micro-services. As an early member of the HingeSelect team, you will help build and shape this new product from the ground up. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to build scalable, performant, and accessible applications. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact product in its early stages. You’ll play a key role in defining the technical foundations and ensuring a seamless and delightful experience for users. The ideal candidate thrives in cross-functional collaboration, is comfortable with ambiguity, and cares deeply about product quality and user experience. Backend engineers at Hinge Health contribute to their team’s success by architecting and implementing end-to-end solutions, well-tested performant APIs and data models. In addition, candidates will profile their systems to stay out ahead of scaling bottlenecks, and help maintain a high bar with thoughtful and constructive code reviews. We enjoy a continuous deployment DevOps culture, and take owner-operator pride in supporting our code in production. Our production systems rely on Golang, gRPC, AWS, Postgres, Redis, and temporal. Our workflow is trunk-based CI/CD, and our security/compliance posture is at the highest standards of healthcare, including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field.
• 2+ years of non-internship full time professional software development experience.
• 1+ years of experience with at least one software programming language.
• 2+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle.
• Experience delivering large software projects or features in a production environment.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Golang, Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.).
• Good understanding and practical knowledge in cloud based services (e.g. gRPC, protobufs, temporal, Docker/Kubernetes, cloud services such as AWS, etc.).

Nice To Haves

• Experience with AI technologies for software design and coding assistance.
• Experience mentoring or onboarding junior engineers.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or scalable architectures.
• Experience with healthcare technology or regulated environments.
• Experience with Agile development practices.

• Utilizes AI tools for team-level efficiency and quality. Understands the technical concepts necessary to do the job effectively and is aware of industry trends in their domain.
• Participates in the team's planning and is learning to estimate how long work will take. Utilizes new technologies and patterns to supplement their own skills.
• Takes ownership of their work after it's released and quickly addresses issues as they arise. Solves problems with multiple states and execution paths.
• Demonstrates a good understanding of tools like New Relic, DataDog, or Sentry to monitor errors and performance.
• Demonstrates operational excellence by planning approaches ahead of time, utilizing new technologies, and participating in team planning and estimation.
