WHOOP is hiring a Software Engineer II (Backend, Health Records) to help build the systems that enable secure, scalable ingestion and utilization of health data. Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience building backend systems and APIs in production environments
  • Experience working with backend technologies such as Java (or similar), relational databases (e.g., Postgres), and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS)
  • Familiarity with designing and working with data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and validation of structured or semi-structured data
  • Understanding of API design principles
  • Exposure to healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, CDA) or integrating with external health data sources
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to break down technical tasks and deliver iteratively
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional environments

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of backend systems for ingesting and processing health record data from external sources (e.g., EHRs, third-party health platforms)
  • Build and support robust data pipelines to clean, normalize, and structure health record data for reliable downstream consumption
  • Develop and maintain secure, scalable APIs and services that expose health record data to internal systems and member-facing features
  • Apply best practices for data privacy, security, and access control when working with sensitive health data
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, data science, and engineering teams to unlock new health insights and capabilities
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure high-quality, maintainable systems
  • Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
