This role is for a fullstack engineer who will work on both the frontend and backend, participating in a team that prioritizes skill sharing and learning. They will make an impact by developing applications used every day across the company. This role will have a collaborative perspective, supporting the design and direction of projects with feedback from other engineers, product managers, and QA to build key sections of the various applications. An engineer in this role is familiar with and works in technologies such as React, Redux, TypeScript, and Java/Spring on the Backend for the API. Note: GumGum fosters a flexible work environment, offering GumGummers the ability to work either in-office or remotely/from home. For this position, in-person/office collaboration is required 2 days per week, supporting a balanced approach to flexibility and team engagement.

Requirements

  • 3+ years Software Engineer experience, including JavaScript
  • Candidate has shipped code to production
  • 3+ years experience with React
  • 2+ years experience with Java
  • Core understanding of JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Use of Git and command-line tools
  • Comfortable using browser developer tools and build tools such as Webpack or build
  • Understanding of responsive design concepts and cross-browser compatibility
  • Understanding of deployment pipeline and processes for releases.
  • Prioritization of tasks in alignment with company goals.
  • Good knowledge of SQL
  • Familiarity with RESTful API concepts

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain new features and improvements for a variety of React web applications
  • Develop backend functionality with Java/Spring, including extending and maintaining APIs
  • Support more senior engineers with projects from inception to production release (and beyond)
  • Collaborate regularly with other teams such as DevOps, Designers, and Product to optimize our applications and brainstorm creative solutions together
  • Implement tests and ensure proper functionality and graceful degradation on multiple browsers
  • Help troubleshoot user reported issues from the team's applications
  • Work with stakeholders in various departments to fully understand business requirements and translate them into the development of the products
  • Develop a deep understanding of the advertising industry as required to be able to make decisions about our technical approach and provide our users with more efficient applications
  • Create new web applications from the ground up if needed
  • Share knowledge by contributing to our technical blog and giving presentations/talks
