About The Position

Chewy is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Discovery Recommendations team in Bellevue, WA. The team delivers relevant and compelling product recommendations to customers by connecting ML/AI models with the customers across the Chewy website and mobile apps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or the equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in software development using Java, TypeScript, Kotlin, etc.
  • 1+ years of experience designing, building, deploying, operating, scaling, and evolving distributed systems for a high-volume transaction application in a 24/7 environment.
  • Hands-on mentality and willingness to spend a significant percentage of your time writing code, designing solutions, and debugging tricky issues.
  • Solid communication skills and ability to work well in a team-based environment.
  • Currently based in or willing to relocate to the Seattle, WA area.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with back-end development using Java Spring Boot.
  • Experience with front-end development using React/TypeScript.
  • Experience with data science models in Python.
  • Experience working with AWS or other public cloud providers (Azure, Google Cloud), specifically compute nodes (e.g. EKS) and step functions/lambdas.
  • Experience working within an Agile/Scrum development process.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with data scientists to make ML innovations broadly available to Chewy services.
  • Help design and deliver features through the stack, from the Java backend to the code running in the customer's app or browser.
  • Write maintainable, scalable, and performant code that powers some of Chewy's most prominent experiences.
  • Support the smooth 24x7 operation of our search services alongside a dedicated site reliability team.
  • Be a fully responsible owner of a diverse service infrastructure.
  • Work in an agile process using CI/CD.
