About this Role If you want to build software that directly accelerates utility-scale solar deployment, this role at Ampacity offers the chance to work on a high-velocity internal product at the intersection of electrical design and automation. You’ll help evolve a custom Python-based design tool used to recreate solar site layouts, apply electrical wiring, and generate a bill of materials (BOM) for accurate quoting. The challenge is real and rewarding: improving speed and usability for engineering workflows, expanding electrical system coverage, and creating customer-facing deliverables that make complex system designs easier to understand. As the tool matures, you’ll also have opportunities to contribute to other Python initiatives across Ampacity—making this a strong role for growth.

Requirements

  • Strong Python fundamentals — professional experience preferred, but a solid portfolio of personal or academic projects is accepted
  • Familiarity with standard engineering tools: Git/GitHub, VSCode, Jira
  • Experience with Python libraries/frameworks such as Django, Reflex, or Pandas
  • Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases
  • Familiarity with agile development practices

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical layouts or design documents
  • Solar industry experience, utility-scale specifically

Responsibilities

  • Build out and maintain the electrical team's BOM (bill of materials) tool
  • Collaborate with the Electrical Engineering Manager and stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable software solutions
  • Write clean, readable, and well-documented code following standard engineering best practices
  • Complete assigned tickets and deliver product-quality results with minimal rework
  • Support other Python-related development projects as the role matures
  • Potentially contribute to small-scale ML/AI tasks such as forecasting or prediction models over time
