The Data Platform team is responsible for designing, implementing, scaling and operating systems, tools and frameworks to build data powered product experiences and to enable data driven decisions. You’ll join a team of talented engineers in our mission to build the best in class foundational data capabilities that are key to the company’s business and product. Notion’s data platform and infrastructure are vital to both empowering every team at Notion to make decisions using data and experimentation, and enabling our product features like search, automations, user notifications, workspace analytics and Notion AI.

Requirements

  • Passion for systems at scale: Experience on data or infrastructure-focused engineering teams, particularly those that own a wide swath of software platforms.
  • Knowledge of asynchronous workflow systems: Experience with systems that execute tasks asynchronously, handle complex workflows, and manage job scheduling.
  • Adaptable and willingness to learn how things work: Excitement about understanding how the systems built are used at a fundamental level.
  • Thoughtful problem-solving & problem-seeking: Ability to decompose tricky problems and work towards clean solutions.
  • Pragmatic and business-oriented: Understanding the business impact of what you're building and prioritizing projects accordingly.
  • Empathetic communication: Ability to communicate nuanced ideas clearly and engage thoughtfully with other perspectives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building out and scaling data infrastructure at a fast-growing startup.
  • Prior experience with asynchronous workflow systems or event-based architecture, using technologies like Kafka and Redis.
  • Experience working full-stack in Typescript and node.js ecosystem.
  • Experience building MLOps and ML serving infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Own and play a pivotal role in the development of systems, tools and infrastructure that democratize data access and enable analytics capabilities across the organization.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineers and partners from the Product, Data Science, Data Engineering and AI teams to deliver short- and long-term impact.
  • Work on all levels of the stack including infrastructure, libraries and product code as needed to successfully build and deliver internal platforms that provide high leverage to multiple product teams.
  • Help in influencing / executing the roadmap for data infrastructure and systems to power high scale product features using Notion’s data.
  • Monitor and operate systems in production, understand systems deeply, optimize performance and evolve critical production systems with minimal user disruption.
