About The Position

Blissway is a startup that simplifies toll collection and dramatically improves highway safety. We are multiple startups in one: Deep Tech, AI/ML, Hardware, SaaS, and IoT. For the past five years, we have built a nearly insurmountable technological lead in tolling—an under-the-radar industry that is bigger than American football. While our competitors have thousands of employees, we operate with a lean but growing team of less than 30. We’ve stayed under the radar, but our impact is visible on the massive Interstate Highway System connecting every major US metro (except Juneau, AK—sorry, Juneau). You are the architect of our data truth. Every byte captured at the edge is a liability until it is assembled, processed, and validated. You will build the high-frequency pipeline that moves data from the "Road to the Cloud," ensuring precision at a scale of millions of images per day. This role is for the engineer who views a bottleneck as a personal affront.

You are detail obsessed: You have experience writing code that stands up to the unpredictability of the physical world, where the small details are the difference between success and failure.

You code really well: We mostly use Python and TypeScript, but we don’t care what you’re most proficient in today—as long as you learn fast.
High-Stakes Record: You were the "go-to" person at your last company or the top of your graduating class. You thrive when the stakes are high.
Infrastructure Depth: Expert knowledge of distributed systems, data integrity, and high-volume cloud architecture.

Responsibilities

Road-to-Cloud Deployment: Own the full-stack data lifecycle—from the code running on roadside sensors to the distributed servers receiving the intake.
The Assembly Engine: Optimize the logic that determines road usage charges and safety infractions with 99.9% accuracy.
Machine Learning: Collaborate with the ML team to pinpoint opportunities for new ML models and integrate them into our process to improve vehicle identification accuracy and speed.
Extreme Scaling: Build and maintain data structures capable of processing millions of high-resolution images daily without breaking a sweat.
First-Principles Engineering: Challenge our current data architecture. If there’s a faster way to assemble a packet, you’re the one to find it.
