About the Role The Developer Platforms group is an essential part of The New York Times' engineering organization with a focus on building an Internal Developer Platform to over 60 teams and 450+ engineers in NYT Product Engineering. You will be a part of the DevEx Application Delivery team within Developer Platforms that enables engineering teams at the New York Times to ship code with high velocity and quality. This is a hybrid remote/in-office role. Employees can work from home up to 3 days a week. You will report to the Engineering Manager of the DevEx Application Delivery team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of software programming(language-agnostic, but we use Go) and scripting like bash.
  • 2+ years of experience running and troubleshooting workloads on Kubernetes clusters (understanding of resources management and observability)
  • 2+ years of infrastructure provisioning and monitoring using Terraform and DataDog or Prometheus and with cloud services like AWS or GCP.
  • 2+ years of experience working with CI/CD systems like Github Actions or Jenkins
  • Experience troubleshooting issues with users: You are motivated by helping others succeed.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience using platforms such as Spinnaker, Harness, CodeFresh, Akuity or ArgoCD.
  • Experience in prompt engineering or leveraging GenAI tools like Copilot, Cursor or Claude Code.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop infrastructure and observability for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment platform that supports hundreds of builds and deployments per day to ensure system reliability and scalability.
  • You will work within areas such as deployment pipeline, containerization, observability, secrets management and research, strategize and propose solutions that meet requirements, reduce friction for product engineers, and consolidate existing solutions.
  • You will engage with engineers across the entire department to make incremental improvements to our tech strategy and the implementation of our platform.
  • You will guide product feature teams on the best practices of CI/CD workflows leveraging our systems.
  • Production support of our users, including weekly on-call rotations.
