About The Position

Design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software. Set operational specifications, and formulate and analyze software requirements. May design embedded systems software. We are looking for an entry level Software Engineer who is interested in designing and building information systems to support construction of some of the largest and most complex products in the world. We are the sole designer and builder of U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy Submarines. We are an extremely diverse organization with a talented and dedicated team of programmers, engineers, architects and administrators working together to support our ever changing technical landscape. As a Software Engineer you will build and maintain systems that process information across multiple disciplines: Materials Management, Planning and Provisioning, Human Resources, Finance, etc. You will interface with the most powerful systems in the world: SAP, Team Center, SharePoint, JDA Component Supplier Management System, Hyperion, etc. and work with the most advanced data base engines in the world: SQL Server and ORACLE. You will support engineering organizations of all disciplines (Mechanical, Metallurgical, Electrical, Radiological, Civil, etc.), craftsmen of all types (Electricians, Welders, Fitters, Fabricators, Machinists, etc.) and critical support organizations (Communications, Payroll, Clinic, Quality, Security, Supply Chain, etc.). Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.
  • One of the following may be used as an equivalent to Bachelor's Degree for Information Technology Related Positions Only:
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
  • A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidate should have basic understanding of the following;
  • Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Programming Languages: C/C++, C#, .NET, Java, Python
  • Knowledge of product development utilizing PLM systems
  • IT systems architecture / design experience and knowledge and use of each stage of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • How to perform under conflicting/changing direction/priorities
  • Written/oral communication and teaming skills
  • DevOps methodologies and tools, such as Continuous Integration/Delivery (CI/CD) preferably with Git and Azure DevOps
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) using Design Patterns such as Dependency Injection and Adapters, and MSTest and NSubstitute
