engineering, leadership, and Product Management teams to deliver results while

As the engineering team leader, you’ll work closely with local engineering staff
and a team of experts to design and execute your team’s feature roadmap. You
will have direct input into requirement definition, and will work closely with
our customers, developers and product managers to define, develop and deliver
new products and features. The ideal candidate is equally obsessed with
delivering the best possible customer experiences and leading and building
strong teams. They define software architecture, communicating effectively with
engineers, partners, leaders and a broad set of stakeholders. This leader can
think long-term, advocate for strong engineering excellence, and bring in their
own software development best practices as well as follow best practices from
the broader development community in Amazon.

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Nice To Haves

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Responsibilities

• You independently manage a development team.
• You are able to represent your team autonomously and require little guidance from your management about the long-term strategic direction for the software your team owns.
• You partner with your engineers and your leadership to define the tenets and vision for your team and systems.
• You establish structures that enable your team to deliver large systems and/or complex software initiatives.
• You drive mindful discussions that lead to crisp decisions.
• You partner with your customers, your engineers, and other teams on what projects move forward and in what priority order.
• You are strategic about SDE growth, collaborating on project assignments that help them expand their skillset and demonstrate the skills needed to achieve the next level.
• You drive reasonable schedules and will readjust priorities to ensure the right customer, technology, and engineering outcomes.
• You tackle ambiguous problems and proactively mitigate risks before they become roadblocks.
• You understand the products and systems your team owns, their limitations and reasons behind architectural decisions.
• You build a team that delivers successfully without you.
• You help your SDEs learn how to make smart trade-offs (e.g., time vs. effort vs. features).
• You support the adoption of high quality engineering practices.
