About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. As a Software Development Manager (SDM) you will be responsible for owning the team’s roadmap and ensuring the strategic visions is executed. You will be responsible for gathering customer requirements, project prioritization, software quality, and system delivery. You will help mentor, develop, and the guide the engineers responsible for the system development. You will need to clearly create, manage project roadmaps and timelines, while proactively managing risks. You will participate in executive level communication, forge strong partnerships across the board and effective peer level/team level communication. You will have opportunities to work on both complex roadmaps and interact with business stakeholders directly. To be successful in this role, you should be comfortable gathering requirements across the many stakeholders with complex and frequently unknown solutions, creating and maintaining technical project plans, and diving into the technical details to understand the nuances and complexities involved. Your work will interface with various subsystems within Amazon Leo. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, an excellent communicator, have strong organizational skills, able to work independently, can juggle multiple tasks at once, and ensure deliverables meet requirements and deadlines. You should have strong knowledge software engineering practices, enjoy mentoring and developing the engineers that work on your team. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. About the team The team builds and maintains the software services responsible for building and managing critical configuration for Leo satellites.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment
