Prime Air is seeking an experienced engineering leader who combines superb technical, research and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. Experience in leading embedded systems or firmware development teams is a must. A successful candidate will be comfortable working with a team of top-notch developers and collaborating with our systems, test, safety and security teams. Export Control License: This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon’s ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • 2+ years of leading embedded systems or firmware engineering teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading teams in aerospace or other safety critical industry
  • Experience leading teams that deliver DO-178C certified systems
  • Experience with RF and/or cellular communication systems

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of talented firmware and embedded systems engineers
  • Manage and develop the team, including hiring, retention, performance management, mentoring and capability/skill development
  • Lead architecture, design, implementation, and operational support of key components on the Prime Air delivery drone
  • Act as point of contact for communications dealing with project deliverables, setting the expectation, managing priorities, technologies, and management issues
  • Establish high bar for processes and standards in the execution of all projects
