About The Position

The AWS EC2 Control Plane team is in search of a manager to lead a team that owns critical EC2 instance connectivity services. This team owns services that enhance customers' observability and troubleshooting by providing a suite of tools to connect to their EC2 instances that adhere to enterprise scaling and security requirements. We're seeking a dynamic individual who can balance technical expertise with strategic thinking, someone who's passionate about building scalable solutions and creating exceptional customer experiences. The ideal candidate will contribute to both team productivity and culture while driving innovation. The ideal candidate is passionate about the large opportunity that Amazon EC2 presents and is eager for a significant intellectual, technical and operational challenge. In this role you will work with your team and senior leadership to develop, launch, and operate high quality services. You will need to be technically strong, able to communicate clearly, and capable of leading and growing a strong team that delivers results.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Responsibilities

  • Direct management of the software engineering team, including supporting and growing the team, and recruiting/hiring new team members.
  • Translation of complex functional and technical requirements into detailed plans and schedules; manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team by defining, implementing and maintaining a coherent, progressive development strategy.
  • Lead the evolution of the software engineering practices within the organization (metrics, development methodology, innovation).
  • Understand and set a high bar for all parts of the DevOps lifecycle, including design, automation, documentation, monitoring, and testing.
  • Be an advocate and drive optimization across the organization.
