As AWS continues to grow to serve more customers, and to support more products, the foundational technologies of AWS also need to evolve and support new use cases and larger scale than ever before. The AWS Transactional Services team in Seattle is building distributed systems and backend technologies that offer innovative solutions to this growth. The team is offering a set of services, APIs to other AWS teams. Our customers are a wide range of AWS foundational teams, from S3, Kinesis, SNS and DynamoDB, each of them looking for technology solutions that help them to achieve their goals. As a Software Development Manager, you will be joining the team that builds Journal Data Plane services and automations at scale. You will be leading a team of software developers solving novel technical challenges, working with tenured Principal Engineers and Senior Software Engineers on a daily basis. Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Responsibilities

  • Own the delivery of software development projects end-to-end.
  • Define your team's roadmap and manage the ongoing projects, keeping customers informed, update senior management, and represent the team to their dependencies.
  • Work with the engineers in your team to invent, design, and develop highly available and scalable distributed systems and database technologies.
  • Work with your team, your peers, senior management, and senior engineers to implement best practices in software development and operational processes.
  • Develop and grow the members of your team, as well as mentoring others.
  • Keep up to date with new technologies used in the field and by our customers, to stay current in our rapidly changing environment.
