About The Position

As the Software Development Manager leading the Tax and Promotions Team (TAP) within Amazon's Ads Billing organization, you will drive critical initiatives that power the rapid growth of Amazon's global advertising business. Your team will be responsible for developing and maintaining automation of tax software for invoicing, while also implementing innovative promotional strategies that directly impact revenue and advertiser retention. You'll lead complex projects such as expanding government e-invoicing capabilities to new jurisdictions and improving digital sales tax experiences. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to tackle challenging technical problems at a global scale, navigating the complexities of international tax regulations and promotional structures. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business objectives, driving projects that have multi-million dollar impacts on Amazon's advertising revenue. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a culture of innovation within the team, as you help build and scale solutions that enable Amazon Advertising's continued global expansion while ensuring compliance with diverse regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Responsibilities

  • Keep your team fully staffed. Track staffing and hiring metrics and work closely with recruiting teams to maintain a full engineering team.
  • Develop your team members. Ensure everyone on your team has clearly documented personal, team, and business goals. Track progress to those goals. Provide opportunities for career growth both within and outside of your team.
  • Build operational excellence. Prioritize operational excellence (OE). Reduce the amount of time your team members spend on operational issues. Create OE dashboards for increased visibility. Ensure OE practices are documented and followed.
  • Communicate your business priorities. Understand your customer and partner priorities. Create and own team tenets, and use them to guide your decisions and approaches. Own your engineering roadmap. Manage stakeholder expectations. Create a three year plan for engineering (3YP) and communicate it broadly.
  • Deliver your roadmap to schedule. Work backwards from your customer and create goals backed up by data. Build mechanisms that monitor progress against goals. Simply and innovate - create hackathons/ideathons to encourage bottom-up innovation. Communicate a delivery plan and deliver to that plan.
