About The Position

We are seeking a Sr. Software Development Lead with expertise in Application Modernization to join our team. This role focuses on modernizing the Delivery Operations Information System (DOIS) for the United States Postal Service (USPS) using microservices architecture and modern development practices. The ideal candidate has strong experience in UI/UX design, Human-Centered Design (HCD), and dynamic form building. HOW A LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT: Lead Java-based development, architecture/design, and ensure quality standards. Partner with product owners to define requirements and deliver prototypes. Develop responsive web applications and reusable components. Optimize applications for performance, scalability, and security in cloud environments. Implement UI/UX designs using HCD principles. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and code reviews. Design and maintain end-to-end reporting solutions integrating front-end and back-end systems. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience. If no degree, 4 additional years of relevant experience required. Required Experience: 10+ years in IT solutions and cloud infrastructure. 7+ years in software development and UX design. Expertise in Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, REST APIs, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines. Experience with microservices architecture and dynamic form building. Strong knowledge of Agile/DevSecOps principles. Familiarity with security best practices and compliance standards. Required Skills: AI-enabled development and integration experience. Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Helm). Data Structures and Algorithms. Version control systems (Git) and automated testing frameworks (JUnit). Desired Skills: Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure). Experience with AI/ML tools (WatsonX, GitHub Copilot). Experience developing and testing wireframes and prototypes. USPS or large-scale federal program experience. Familiarity with VersionOne Agile Lifecycle Management Tool. Experience writing unit tests and implementing CI/CD best practices. Location: Remote Security Clearance Level: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting. This position has a U.S. residency requirement. The USPS security clearance process requires the selected candidate to have resided in the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for the last five years as follows: U.S. Citizens cannot have left the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for longer than 6 months consecutively in the last 3 years (unless they meet certain exceptions). Non-U.S. Citizens cannot have left the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for longer than 90 days consecutively in the last 3 years. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
