DESCRIPTION APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Collaborate with frontend and backend teams to develop and integrate new rendering and map display features into Apple Maps. Implement rendering enhancements, incorporate new data sources, and ensure seamless integration with existing software architecture. Participate in design meetings with other engineers and with cross-functional teams, including product managers, UX designers and QA. Determine minimum viable product, propose solutions, and contribute insights to design maintainable performance rendering systems that meet user needs. Analyze and optimize rendering algorithms on the CPU and GPU to ensure displaying the map in real time efficiently. Look at areas of improvement in implementations of data structures, use of memory resources and structure of code to ensure maintainability and performance. Address reported user issues by debugging, profiling, and analyzing rendering pipeline components. Work closely with QA engineers to reproduce and diagnose problems, then implement effective solutions to resolve them. Conduct code reviews of other engineers on the team to maintain code quality, readability, and adherence to software engineering principles. Identify areas for refactoring to improve code maintainability and scalability while ensuring backward compatibility with previous Apple platforms. Document design decisions and implementation details as part of technical documentation. Share knowledge and insights with team members through change documentation, wiki pages, and internal presentations to facilitate learning and productive feature development as a team. Conduct research and experimentation to explore emerging technologies, algorithms, and techniques related to 3D map rendering and graphics. Stay informed about industry trends and academic advancements to drive innovation and maintain the competitive edge of Apple Maps. Develop software architectural designs, build rendering algorithms and multi-core systems. Develop advanced lighting models for 3D terrain shading. Implement features using performant real-time 3D rendering and AR/VR techniques. Use test-driven development to derive rendering and graphics solutions for 3D Maps. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $187,741 - $272,100/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • Utilizing C++, objective-C or Swift to work on multi-language codebase.
  • Leveraging linear algebra and rendering algorithms to develop and implement complex graphics features.
  • Using rendering APIs including Direct3D, OpenGL, Metal or Vulkan to develop optimal rendering solutions.
  • Leveraging profiling tools including PowerBill, Instruments and GPU Debugger to conduct performance analysis and identify bottlenecks in the rendering pipeline.
  • Developing solutions to optimize product performance across frame time, power utilization and memory footprint dimensions.
  • Creating code patches for delivering the product on time.
  • Providing input to cross functional conversations to review product requirements, clarify UX design, resolve cross functional data dependencies and mitigate risks in delivery of complex Maps features on time.
  • Performing code reviews, providing feedback on design conversations and maintaining documentation of implemented features.
  • Developing tools to allow real-time modification of rendering features to match design goals.
  • Debugging software using an interactive debugger (e.g. Xcode) or alternative tools (e.g. GPU Debugger) to triage and address rendering issues.
