About The Position

We're seeking a Software Development Engineer II (SDE2) to join our Discovery Team, the heart of the customer journey at Zappos. As an SDE2, you will contribute significantly to software development for the core customer journey on Zappos.com - from Homepage to checkout: Search, Search Results, Homepage, Ads, Widgets, Recommendations, and much more. Requirements

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent

Nice To Haves

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Proficiency in DynamoDB, ECS, SQS, SNS, S3, and comfort with CI/CD automation.
• Experience with search engines (ideally Solr), enhancing our customers' discovery journey.
• Familiarity with open-source tools (Git, SpringMVC, SpringBoot, Maven, Gradle, Ant, JUnit, Jenkins) to help us innovate.

Responsibilities

• Play a key role in the development and maintenance of Java-based applications leveraging AWS services (ECS, SQS, S3, DynamoDB), ensuring our architecture supports scalable, maintainable, and high-quality solutions.
• Work closely with product managers, UX designers, and engineers. Your contributions will be crucial in creating optimal customer experiences and steering technology choices.
• Provide guidance and feedback to help maintain high coding standards and practices. Your efforts will contribute to the growth and development of our engineering team.
• Address complex issues within a well-understood technology strategy. You'll balance business needs with technical solutions to ensure scalability and future growth.
• Your contributions will not only address problems efficiently but also adhere to and promote best practices within the team.
