About The Position

The Quality Engineering team is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to design, build, and maintain automated tests across UI, API, and to keep our CI/CD pipelines healthy. Our team partners closely with development, product, operations, and support to integrate quality into everyday engineering and deliver reliable, observable services. You’ll have impact by owning feature level automation, improving test coverage and resiliency, and helping keep builds green. You’ll learn modern tools (Playwright/TypeScript) and practices (containerized test environments, actionable metrics) while collaborating with engineers who value practical quality and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in QA automation/SDET roles.
  • Hands-on experience with modern UI automation tools (Playwright preferred; Cypress or Selenium acceptable).
  • Proficiency in TypeScript (preferred) or JavaScript/Java/Python for test automation.
  • Experience configuring and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
  • Ability to design and automate API tests (Playwright or Rest-Assured) and validate integration scenarios.
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Test automation craftsmanship – Writes clean, maintainable tests and frameworks; balances speed and reliability.
  • Collaboration & communication – Works effectively across roles; gives and receives feedback through code reviews and pairing.
  • Analytical problem-solving – Breaks down complex issues; uses data and observability to find root causes and improve coverage.
  • Comfort with Docker and containerized test environments.
  • Foundational understanding of Kubernetes components and at least one public cloud.
  • Experience adding tracing/logging to improve test observability (e.g., distributed tracing, structured logs).

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated tests across UI, API, and integration layers; contribute tests both inside and outside the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Help produce and interpret quality metrics (e.g., pass rates, defect leakage, build stability) and use them to guide test strategy.
  • Collaborate with development, product, operations, and support; participate in code reviews for test code and, when appropriate, product/infrastructure code.
  • Add useful logging, tracing, and validation checks to improve observability and resiliency under test.
  • Configure and troubleshoot pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions/Jenkins); manage test data and keep test environments ready using containers.
  • Partner with developers to plan effective test coverage for features and services; raise risks and propose test approaches.
  • Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.
  • Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization’s secure software development goals.
  • Embrace curiosity, passion, authenticity and accountability. These are our values and influence everything we do.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, prescription, dental and vision plans.
  • Medical plan options include:
  • PPO with low annual deductible and copays.
  • HDHP combined with a health savings account with a contribution from SAS (no access to on-site health care center).
  • Onsite Health Care Center (HQ) that’s free to employees and family members enrolled in the PPO plan. There's a pharmacy too! Not local to HQ? The pharmacy will ship prescriptions for no additional charge!
  • An industry-leading 401k plan.
