The Software Development Engineer II at Zappos will engage in all phases of software development to create services that align with the organization's goals. This role focuses on enhancing service and product performance, from ideation to strategy development, and aims to implement automation for self-monitoring and self-healing solutions. The position requires navigating ambiguity and managing cross-organizational complexities.

  • Develop and maintain Java-based applications utilizing AWS services (ECS/SQS/S3/DynamoDB).
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and UX designers to optimize customer experiences.
  • Mentor junior developers by providing constructive feedback and enhancing coding standards.
  • Drive architectural and technology decisions to ensure elegant and practical code.
  • Address customer problems by devising and implementing solutions for speed and scalability.
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in software development.
  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals (theory, data structures, algorithms).
  • Deep knowledge of scalable computing systems, software architecture, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Strong proficiency in a modern programming language such as C#, Java, or Ruby.
  • Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases.
  • Proven ability to design, build, deliver, and troubleshoot complex service-oriented systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • College degree in a related field of study.
  • Deep understanding of Java 8+ and experience with the Spring Framework.
  • Experience with AWS technologies including DynamoDB, ECS, SQS, SNS, S3, or other cloud providers (GCP, Azure).
