Join the ML Platform team, that provides the core tools and services that power the end-to-end ML lifecycle and accelerate getting models into production. As a Software Development Engineer II, you will help evolve the platform, define best practices, and solve complex distributed systems problems. You’ll partner closely with a talented, cross functional group of ML engineers and scientists to deliver high-quality, production ready software that powers the future of travel. Collaborate with ML teams to transform Expedia's data assets into intelligent and real-time insights to support various use cases.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
• 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Go or Java) and associated ecosystem, with hands-on experience in API design, data modelling, and system design (including low-level design)
• Familiarity with data stores, API access patterns, and service integration with ability to design and implement services or components, including APIs, data models, and low-level system design
• Experience with software engineering fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, testing practices, version control, and debugging in a collaborative team setting.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with event-driven or streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis) and high scale ingestion patterns.
• Exposure to AI/ML tools or platforms and an interest in applying AI to improve developer workflows, testing, or data quality.
• Background working with data-centric systems such as databases (SQL, No-SQL) including tools like Airflow, Spark, Databricks.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, distributed systems concepts, automated testing, and monitoring tools to ensure system reliability and health.
• Hands-on experience with public/hybrid cloud services and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, Azure.
• Hands-on experience improving service reliability and operational excellence through metrics, monitoring, alerting, and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain services and components with a focus on clean APIs, robust data models, and low-level system design that are reliable, scalable, and secure.
• Own end-to-end delivery of well-scoped features, including technical design, implementation, code review, testing strategy, and operational readiness within your team’s services.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, and other engineering teams to clarify requirements, break down complex problems, and deliver solutions that can be reused across multiple domains and use cases.
• Apply strong coding practices, debugging, and performance tuning skills to improve service reliability, reduce technical debt, and enhance operational excellence.
• Safely integrate and operate AI/ML enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
• Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence by participating in design discussions, documenting technical decisions, and sharing knowledge to increase team-wide technical capability and fungibility.
• Coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues and report clearly on current work status while solving challenging issues when empowered to do so
