About The Position

The University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine’s Department of Cell Biology seeks a Software Developer to work in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a hybrid office/work-from-home position within the United States, but the employee must live within commuting distance of the office in Pittsburgh, PA. Responsibilities include (i) designing, implementing, testing, and deploying software applications and systems tailored to large-scale data workflows; (ii) developing user-friendly web interfaces and APIs using Python and the Flask framework to support data access, visualization, and interactivity; (iii) designing, maintaining, and documenting robust back-end systems for indexing and retrieval of complex datasets using technologies such as Elasticsearch; and (iv) collaborating with researchers and IT staff to integrate software with existing pipelines, optimize performance, and ensure usability and documentation. Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field plus one (1) year of experience in a related position.
  • Experience must include one (1) year working with: (i) Elasticsearch for high-performance indexing and retrievals of billions of data points; (ii) developing web interfaces and APIs in the python FLASK framework; (iii) web development for making interactive informational dashboards; (iv) integration of machine learning techniques into application for analysis of large data sets; and (v) a Linux command line environment.
