About The Position

We're looking for a talented Software Developer in Test (SDET) to join the Tightbeam team and help us push the boundaries of free space optical (FSO) communications. In this role, you'll sit at the intersection of software engineering and optical systems building the test infrastructure, automation frameworks, and analysis pipelines that ensure our systems perform reliably at the cutting edge. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves writing quality software and cares deeply about what that software is validating.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of software development experience, with a focus on test automation or embedded/systems testing
  • Proficiency in Python and/or C++ for test scripting, automation, and data analysis
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing or instrument control (e.g., VISA, GPIB, serial protocols)
  • Strong data analysis skills comfortable working with large datasets, plotting, and statistical analysis (NumPy, pandas, matplotlib or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams across engineering, hardware, and QA

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with ADC and DAC signal conversions, DSP, and optical principles
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into build systems
  • Experience with Go, Linux, and Networking.
  • Experience with real-time or embedded systems testing
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability industries

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for complex FSO communications hardware and software systems
  • Develop integrated operations and automation tooling to support system-level testing across the full product lifecycle
  • Define and implement test methodologies, test plans, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with systems and hardware engineers
  • Collect, process, and analyze test data to evaluate optical link performance, identify failure modes, and drive improvements
  • Build measurement and analysis tooling using modern software stacks, translating raw telemetry into actionable insights
  • Troubleshoot issues at the hardware/software boundary, working closely with optical and electrical engineering teams to root-cause defects
  • Partner with manufacturing and quality assurance teams to support production test processes and ensure consistent measurement standards
  • Own project milestones for test development efforts, communicating status and risks clearly to cross-functional stakeholders

Benefits

  • Innovative Environment: Work at a cutting-edge company shaping the future of aerospace communications.
  • Impactful Work: Directly contribute to critical national security programs and initiatives.
  • Growth Opportunities: Expand your career with opportunities for professional development and advancement.
  • Inclusive Culture: Be part of a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive workplace where your contributions matter.
  • Flexibility: Flexible working arrangements including hybrid remote/in-office schedules.
  • Compensation and Equity: Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits (401(k), dental, vision, health, life insurance), paid time off, and equity options.
