North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer’s mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy. Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS. The Strategic Deterrence Directorate has an opening for a Software Developer focusing on FileMaker Applications within the Strategic Deterrence Directorate. The successful candidate will design, test, deploy and maintain software solutions. The successful candidate will gather, analyze and document new systems requirements and changes to existing systems.

  • Gather, analyze, and document new systems requirements and changes to existing systems.
  • Develop detailed design specifications, schema design and entity relationship models, and test plans.
  • Independently lead requirements gathering, software design, schema development and testing; develop advanced technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Actively participate in code/design reviews and provide solutions to moderate to high complexity ambiguous problems.
  • Provide computer science and software development support using industry standard software development practices and modern programming languages and operating systems.
  • Adhere to established software development and data modeling design practices.
  • Adhere to established software development project management and version release practices.
  • Support and coordinate with team management and stakeholders prioritization of work.
  • Engage other developers frequently to share relevant knowledge, opinions, and recommendations.
  • Apply highly advanced knowledge to use of development platforms and mentoring others.
  • Contribute to the fulfillment of technical projects and organizational objectives, functioning as an effective team member on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Participate in the entire software development lifecycle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Knowledge and experience developing applications with recent FileMaker Pro.
  • Knowledge and experience configuring and maintaining FileMaker Pro servers.
  • Skilled in all aspects of software project life cycle: feasibility, requirements, design, implementation, integration, test and deployment.
  • Ability to resolve user issues, data problems, and code defects.
  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills; ability to find solutions to complex problems and to handle multiple priorities and tasks effectively.
  • Effective interpersonal and critical thinking skills necessary to contribute to team objectives.
  • Sufficient written and verbal communication skills necessary to prepare, present, and document technical information.
  • Knowledge and experience with relational databases, web development and recent low code application platforms such as Oracle APEX.
  • Knowledge and experience with web development technologies and languages such as JavaScript, Ajax, CSS, and HTML.
  • Broad experience with information systems application development.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server.
  • Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL.
  • Experience integrating API calls within applications.
  • Experience in software design and architecture principles.
  • Experience with data modeling tools.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented design principles.
  • Experience with large matrixed organizations.
