About the job The Viya 3.5 Security team is looking for a Software Developer (Emerging Career) to contribute to securing SAS' Viya 3.5 customer offerings. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated developer to grow their skills in security-focused software development while working alongside experienced engineers. You'll collaborate with teams across SAS to solve technical problems throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)—from design and implementation through testing and deployment. You can expect to work on a wide breadth of projects across SAS’ entire portfolio with a focus on Java Spring Boot development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience
  • Working knowledge of Java and object-oriented programming principles
  • Familiarity with Spring Boot framework or similar Java frameworks
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile/Scrum) and design principles
  • Experience with Gradle for build automation and dependency management
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

  • Quality Oriented: Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
  • Exposure to security scanning tools (e.g., Snyk, Prisma, Klocwork, ZAP)
  • Basic understanding of Cyber security principles including FIPS compliance, TLS/SSL protocols, certificate management, and encryption
  • Experience with source code management tools, particularly Git
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or scripting with Python
  • Experience with unit testing and test-driven development

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to architecture and implementation discussions and actively participate in agile rituals including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including product management, QA, DevOps, and fellow developers to deliver secure, high-quality software solutions
  • Develop and maintain security features for the Viya 3.5 platform under the guidance of senior team members
  • Participate in project scoping and tracking using Agile methodology in a continuous delivery environment
  • Learn and apply security best practices throughout the development process
  • Stay current with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices
  • Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization’s secure software development goals.
