The University of Minnesota's School of Public Health is seeking a Software Developer to join their research team focused on HIV treatment and prevention strategies. This role involves developing software for a project aimed at eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. The developer will work independently and collaboratively to enhance existing models and ensure the software meets the project's health policy modeling goals.

  • Strategize and plan necessary model development and determine the optimal coding approach to accomplish research goals.
  • Develop and maintain HIV model software code.
  • Develop and run software tests, such as unit tests, to ensure optimal functioning of the simulation-based model.
  • Develop and run simulations, and analyze simulation results, to answer specific health policy questions.
  • Use Github to manage and track changes to source code, as well as document user manuals for the model code.
  • BA/BS plus at least four years of work experience, or master's degree plus at least 2 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Matlab, or in another programming language, such as R or Python, with motivation to learn Matlab.
  • Expertise in developing computer-based simulations to model either infectious or non-infectious diseases.
  • Experience using a distributed version control system, such as Github, to track code changes and manage software collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • PhD in health services research, computer science, applied mathematics, industrial engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in decision analysis and evaluating the cost-effectiveness of health interventions.
  • Experience with HIV outcomes research and ideally familiarity with eMTCT-relevant interventions.
