About The Position

We are seeking a strong engineer to join our team which is focused on building and maintaining a scalable software control platform for Compute Infrastructure. The systems you build will be used by both external and internal customers and will present some of the highest visibility APIs within OCI. Major focus areas of software maintained by the team include: Creating and maintaining highly available APIs for launching and managing Compute resources. This includes not only APIs but highly complex asynchronous workflows, background processing, etc. Designing and implementing highly scalable systems capable of functioning across numerous regions in a worldwide cloud footprint. Security-first design and deep integration with the OCI Identity and Access Management (IAM) framework. You and members of the team will be called upon to solve many diverse scaling, security, efficiency, deliver critical customer features, and solve automation problems through robust architectural decisions and customer-first design. You will deliver the solutions that directly contribute to the success of our customers. Responsibilities As a Principal Member of Technical Staff, you will be called upon to lead major projects and have significant participation in design and architecture. You will be expected to act as a technical leader on your team and demonstrate core values for other more junior engineers. OCI highly prizes “design in writing” and participating in architectural and design discussions and reviews is a key expectation at this level. This role is, fundamentally, a back-end web service development role with a high emphasis on thorough design, scalability, and high availability. The features you design and implement will be extremely critical to internal and external customers. You will be responsible for a wide-ranging set of tasks within the software development space. These range from participating in high-level architectural discussions to feature implementation and DevOps automation.

Requirements

Solid knowledge of at least one major programming language (preferably Java or Golang)
Knowledge of a scripting language (preferably Python)
Proficiency in shell scripting (Linux shell scripting -- bash)
A strong knowledge of Linux fundamentals
Knowledge of database fundamentals
Familiarity with major architectural patterns and principles
Skills in debugging and testing complex systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment.
