About The Position

The Church's Missionary Works Portfolio is looking for a talented individual to join the Referral Messaging Enablement team. This is a full-time benefitted position that is limited to a fixed term ending Sept 14, 2028. During that time, this individual would be eligible to be considered for additional opportunities at the Church for positions without a fixed-term. The Software Development Engineer 1 is an entry-level, professional role responsible for developing and maintaining software source code to support a solution under the close supervision of an assigned technical lead. As a member of a development team, the individual will receive specific work direction, most often from more senior software developers. The individual will be expected to solve less-complex technical issues and complete programming tasks. This is an individual contributor role. This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • One or more years of relevant professional experience or significant internship.
  • Demonstrated ability to code in Java, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Basic understanding of Agile Software Development methodologies and principles.
  • Clear and accurate written communication skills and great attention to detail.
  • Skills in engineering/programming, analytical/diagnostic/troubleshooting, web technology, and programming methodology.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies and programming languages.
  • Familiarity with applicable software, computer languages, and code to perform the responsibilities of the role.
  • Basic knowledge of DevSecOps.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Angular 17+, Firebase Real-time Database.
  • Previous experience with AWS Lambdas, EC2, S3, Fargate, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, SNS.
  • Work experience with the specific solution being supported.
  • Basic understanding of computer systems; knowledge or experience in the tools, methodologies, and technologies to be used.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software source code to support a solution under supervision.
  • Solve less-complex technical issues and complete programming tasks.
  • Participate in the analysis of functional requirements.
  • Map functional requirements to technical designs.
  • Assist in providing estimates for development tasks.
  • Develop source code and unit tests according to technical designs.
  • Participate in code reviews.
  • Contribute to technical documentation.
  • Be available to participate in the Incident Management process and fix defects on a 24/7 basis.
  • Follow policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
