Santa Monica Seafood is seeking a seasoned Software and Business Intelligence Engineer with a strong blend of software development/engineering, report writing, and business analysis expertise. The ideal candidate will also have hands-on experience in accounting, the food industry, and business operations relevant to food production and distribution. This cross-functional role will be instrumental in designing and implementing data-driven solutions, streamlining operational workflows, and building custom software/reporting tools that empower strategic decision-making across the organization. The successful candidate will be a member of a small team chartered to deliver and maintain multiple applications (sales, purchasing, finance, production, HR) focused on the internal business teams. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working closely with business teams and management to deploy solutions to all divisions of the company.   • Leverages strong understanding of business to develop high quality code to meet product/platform requirements.
  • Develop and maintain complex SQL queries, functions, and stored procedures.
  • Build scalable, secure enterprise applications.
  • Integrate emerging technologies including AI/ML.
  • Build integration solutions utilizing APIs.
  • Define and uphold best practices for coding, software architecture, and system integrations, conducting code check-ins and code reviews to maintain high development standards.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on solutions and systems integration.
  • Adopt best practices and innovative software design methodologies.
  • Use tools such as SQL Profiler to trace transaction activity, identify affected tables, and troubleshoot system locks and/or performance issues.
  • Monitor cloud and on-prem BSA assets (AWS, Azure, custom apps).
  • Analyze business requirements and convert them into functional specifications.
  • Create and maintain Power BI dashboards and ERP reports.
  • Ensure data consistency across platforms (e.g., ERP, CRM, databases). This includes data normalization and standardization.
  • Monitor KPIs and deliver actionable insights.
  • Utilize tools such as SQL profiler to translate end user transactions to affected tables for effective report writing.
  • Setup and maintain data exchange gateways such as Power BI Gateways.
  • Train users on Power BI and troubleshoot data/reporting issues.
  • Conduct gap analysis, process modeling, and document workflows.
  • Support M&A, company expansions, and new business startups.
  • Compose internal and external SOPs, user guides, videos, and documentation.
  • Participate in development and execution of effective training programs.
  • Promote automation to replace manual processes and implement changes to improve processes and workflows.
  • Consult with VP of Enterprise Solutions and other department leadership regarding ongoing process improvements or changes, potential impact of those changes.
  • Provide helpdesk support to business operation.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage conflicting priorities and challenging situations.
  • Proven experience in software development, reporting, and business analysis.
  • Strong in SQL (Transact-SQL), Python, Power BI, cloud platforms, C, C++, C#, .NET.
  • Experience with Microsoft BI Stack: SSRS, SSIS, SSAS.
  • Expertise in data modeling, data warehousing, ETL processes.
  • Background in accounting or financial reporting.
  • Proven experience in fast-paced environments with tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with integrations.
  • Hands-on with cloud databases (Azure SQL DB, MS SQL DB).
  • Solid experience in automated testing and QA.
  • AI/ML experience
  • BS degree in computer science, software engineering, or information technology.
  • Full Stack Development skills.
