As a Software (Bioinformatics) Engineer 1 in Cambridge, you’ll be part of the DRAGEN Team—a dynamic group driving innovation in genomic data analysis and automation. This team is central to shaping the future of genomic testing infrastructure, and your work will directly accelerate scientific discovery.

Requirements

• Strong foundation in programming with experience in Python, Java, C#, or C++
• Experience in Linux environments and cloud technologies
• Exposure to CI/CD tools and automated testing frameworks
• Familiarity with database design, web development, or data visualisation tools is a plus
• A keen interest in bioinformatics

• Experience in bioinformatics or eagerness to learn

Responsibilities

• Design and develop automated software verification frameworks for genomic analysis tools
• Ensure robustness and scalability across verification workflows
• Partner with bioinformatics scientists to design, troubleshoot, and optimise tools for large-scale genomic datasets
• Translate scientific requirements into reliable software solutions
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and internal databases
• Enhance web platforms used for verification and reporting
• Participate in code and design reviews to uphold high software standards
• Drive continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle
