About The Position

At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world. Raytheon is seeking a Software Automation Engineer. This role is focused on designing, developing, and sustaining automation and data‑engineering solutions within a specialized semiconductor fabrication environment. The Engineer will build high‑reliability data pipelines and integrating automation technologies with semiconductor manufacturing equipment and workflows.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in system design, data pipeline development, and/or database optimization.
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, Java, JavaScript and/or relevant automation tool integration software.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in semiconductor manufacturing, high‑tech operations, or advanced robotics.
  • Experience building scalable data systems suited for high‑frequency, high‑integrity industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of fab automation workflows, MES integration, APC/FDC applications, and user‑focused tool development.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment communication protocols (e.g., SECS/GEM)

Responsibilities

  • System Design & Maintenance
  • Modernize fab‑level data and automation systems, including database structures, stored procedures, views, indexing, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Transition legacy file‑based data transfer mechanisms to real‑time event‑driven architectures facilitated by SECS/GEM.
  • Integrate system designs with MES, equipment controllers, SPC platforms, and automation layers (SECS/GEM and related standards).
  • Data Engineering
  • Build and maintain robust pipelines enabling ingestion of tool telemetry, sensor streams, metrology results, and manufacturing events.
  • Develop data models and curated tables/snapshots to support engineering, operations, yield, and automation systems.
  • Automation
  • Drive automation initiatives that reduce manual intervention, increase equipment uptime, and improve fab throughput.
  • Enhance automated recipe selection, process parameter feedback, and closed‑loop control mechanisms.
  • Develop targeted software applications that address specific fab workflow needs, including tool interfaces, dashboards, and automation utilities.
  • Collaboration
  • Work closely with process engineering, equipment engineering, automation/IT, and operations teams to align technical implementations with fab objectives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share best practices in systems design, data engineering, and automation development.

Benefits

  • Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.
