The Senior Software Architect (Domain Architecture) provides high‑level architectural leadership and oversight across assigned functional domains supporting the Army National Guard’s (ARNG) enterprise environment. This role ensures architectural consistency, technical alignment, and quality across system designs, modernization efforts, and enterprise-level engineering initiatives. The architect reviews technical documentation, guides Technical Leads, identifies cross‑cutting technical issues, and recommends solutions that align with ARNG enterprise architecture principles, standards, and modernization objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, etc.).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in enterprise information technology, architecture, or systems engineering.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, domain‑driven design, and large‑scale system integration.
  • Proficiency in reviewing design artifacts, SDDs, CM documentation, and architectural specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify cross‑cutting issues and propose effective architectural solutions.
  • Expertise with cloud architecture, especially AWS environments.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
  • Required Certifications: AWS Solutions Architect, TOGAF, Security+.

Nice To Haves

  • Azure Solutions Architect certification.
  • Experience supporting DoD, Army, NETCOM, or ARNG environments.
  • Knowledge of hybrid‑cloud environments, enterprise IT modernization, and architectural governance processes.
  • Experience collaborating with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams and enterprise stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of “to‑be” architecture designs for assigned functional domains.
  • Review System Design Documents (SDDs) and configuration management artifacts for architectural consistency.
  • Provide architectural guidance and decision support to Technical Leads across engineering teams.
  • Identify cross‑cutting technical issues and recommend enterprise‑aligned solutions.
  • Ensure architectural alignment with enterprise standards, policies, and modernization objectives.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, cybersecurity teams, cloud teams, and hosting providers.
  • Support integration across domains to ensure interoperability and avoid conflicting implementations.
  • Communicate architectural decisions, impacts, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
