About The Position

Craig Technologies has an opening for a Softgoods Technician at The NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. In this role, you provide softgoods fabrication support for the Softgoods Lab of the Health and Human Performance Contract (HHPC) 2 Engineering Department. With extreme attention to detail, you support the design, development and manufacture of ground support, prototype, and flight softgoods components. You will develop and make patterns to aid the manufacturing of softgoods equipment, provide design and fabrication input for softgoods projects, and review and redline softgoods fabrication drawings. This role will serve as a softgoods expert and technical point of contact within the HHPC2 Engineering Department.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in the use of commercial sewing machines on lightweight to heavyweight materials, knowledge of fabric limitations and an ability to read engineering drawings.
  • You comply with the Company’s Safety, Health and Environmental Plan, Quality Plan, and all safety policies and procedures, and complete all assigned training.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years’ experience OR high school or equivalent with 12 years’ experience in softgoods fabrication industry
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and have basic computer skills
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Competent in the use of commercial sewing machines and other softgoods industry related equipment, for example walking foot and serger machines, on lightweight to heavyweight materials as well as precision hand sewing.
  • Knowledge of fabric limitations and standard tailoring concepts, procedures and practices
  • Able to read engineering drawings and work to written procedures
  • Must Pass a NASA Background Check
  • Must be able to obtain/hold a Security Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience with aerospace softgoods fabrication
  • Preferred degree in Fashion Design
  • Preferred Multilayer Insulation (MLI) layup, layout and fabrication experience with knowledge of NASA procurement and documentation
