About The Position

To support the head coach in creating a competitive, organized, and character-driven softball program that fosters the athletic and personal growth of student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Prior coaching experience preferred, ideally in softball or a related sport.
  • Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, and strategies.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes and serve as a mentor.
  • Must meet all UCPS and NCHSAA coaching requirements (including CPR/AED certification).
  • Effective communicator, team-oriented, and dependable.
  • Displays integrity, professionalism, and commitment to student development.
  • Be reliable and actively involved in all aspects of the program.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the vision of the head coach and goals of Weddington athletics.
  • Uphold and enforce all school, district, and NCHSAA regulations and policies.
  • Be a positive presence on campus and in the community.
  • The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and off-season work.
  • Background check and verification of coaching credentials are required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing daily practices, drills, and game strategies.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction in key areas such as hitting, pitching, fielding, and base running.
  • Support player development at all skill levels with patience and energy.
  • Attend all practices, games, team meetings, and off-season training as directed by the head coach.
  • Help maintain discipline, effort, and focus among players during all team activities.
  • Model and teach sportsmanship, accountability, and respect for teammates, opponents, and officials.
  • Communicate consistently with the head coach regarding player progress, concerns, or needs.
  • Assist with inventory, equipment setup and breakdown, and facility maintenance.
  • Participate in team travel, supervision, and logistics as required.
  • Help monitor academic progress and character development of student-athletes.
  • Support program communication with parents, media, and the community when necessary.
