Solano Community College is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time instructor role to teach in person classes within the Sociology department as part of our Rising Scholars program. This entails teaching in person at two local correctional facilities: California Medical Facility and California State Prison Solano. The curriculum includes specialized courses in the legal environment in business, business communications, management, human relations, and marketing. This is a part-time/adjunct faculty position. The teaching assignments may require teaching lecture-discussion courses during day, evening or on Saturday and/or in an on-line/distance education format. The assignments are as needed, during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters. The district may cancel classes or change instructors as enrollment needs are determined. This part-time Sociology instructor will teach a variety of sociology courses, as assigned, for the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. This position is a part-time position. The teaching assignment may require teaching lecture-discussion courses during day, evening or on Saturday and/or in an on-line/distance education format. The assignments are as needed, during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters. This position is a "pool" position, meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a "pool" of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Solano Community College. The advantage of "pool" positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised. APPLICATION PROCESS DETAILS: To be considered for this position, all complete applications and supporting materials must be received by the application deadline. Travel costs related to the interview are the responsibility of the candidate. Paid office hours are available to adjunct faculty in fall and spring semesters who teach a 40% assignment or more. Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations. Inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations. Meet administrative time lines and submit completed and required documents and reports. Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records. Participate in division staff meetings. Keep Student learning outcomes current and assess courses. Review of curriculum and assessment of student learning. Instructors must also provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations; review curriculum and assess student learning; inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports; maintain required student attendance and scholastic records, and both communicate and work effectively with others.
