About The Position

Ohlone College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part-time teaching assignments in Sociology. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and learning, demonstrating a strong commitment to the missions and ideals of the community college. We are looking for excellent teachers who are student-oriented and dedicated to student success. The position requires innovative teaching strategies, including collaborative learning and the active use of technology, to generate student engagement in learning. Continuous professional development is highly valued, and faculty members are encouraged to engage in curriculum and instructional improvement through ongoing critical thinking about student learning outcomes in courses and programs. The Sociology Instructor will be responsible for teaching Sociology in accordance with established course outlines at the post-secondary level. This includes evaluating student work using clear criteria relevant to the course content and student learning outcomes, providing timely feedback to students, and maintaining accurate records according to published deadlines, such as grades, syllabi, and attendance reports. The instructor is expected to create an equity-based and welcoming classroom environment and perform duties as described in Board policy and the Faculty Handbook. Assignments may include day, evening, and weekend courses, and may be in-person, online, or hybrid. The candidate will also be required to teach in-person courses, including at high school locations as part of the college's dual enrollment program. Part-time faculty job postings are continuous recruitments used to create applicant pools for filling part-time temporary teaching assignments on an as-needed basis. Applications are accepted year-round and will remain in the pool for two years.
