About The Position

The Department of Sociology at Radford University, a regional comprehensive university in the picturesque Blue Ridge and New River Valley regions of Southwest Virginia, seeks applications for a one-semester full-time position for the Spring of 2026. We are seeking a teacher/scholar with expertise and training in African American Studies who can contribute to our program. Our department of dedicated teacher-scholars includes a major and minor in Sociology and a growing and dynamic minor in African American Studies.

Requirements

  • PhD in Sociology, African American Studies, or related field
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching
  • A record of scholarship or demonstrated potential for developing a productive program of scholarship
  • An ability to effectively mentor students and advocate for the minor in African American Studies
  • ABD candidates will be considered with confirmation of a graduation date
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor employment visas at this time.

Nice To Haves

  • Administrative experience in directing a program
  • Interest in teaching online courses
  • Demonstrated experience that contributes to our applied sociology mission or to the Center for Social and Cultural Research.
