About the position

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, the Social Worker provides students, parents, administrators, and other teaching staff with individually-tailored advice and consultation to overcome personal, emotional, familial, or social issues to maximize the students' learning experience. The position involves conducting assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning or social interaction issues, recommending courses of action, and performing casework services with students and parents to encourage understanding and participation in overcoming social issues. The Social Worker also assists in implementing behavior management plans, coordinates with outside agencies, and serves as a resource for counseling to promote personal growth and behavioral management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students.
  • Perform casework services with students and parents.
  • Assist students and teaching staff in implementing behavior management plans.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and organizations.
  • Work with administrators and teaching staff to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs.
  • Assist with the school district's dropout prevention efforts.
  • Provide counseling to students and parents.
  • Maintain accurate and complete record-keeping.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education.
  • Assist in the orientation of new teachers and provide in-service training.

Requirements

  • Connecticut State Certification as a Social Worker.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Master's Degree in Social Work.
  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
