About The Position

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for a Social Worker to join us in a part-time capacity (0.8 FTE).  Based at our Springfield campus, this is a career-defining opportunity in a dynamic, patient-focused environment. This role will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening in the coming months. As Mater’s first new public hospital in over 60 years, this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. The Social Work team will support both public and private patients across the co-located Mater Hospital Springfield and Mater Private Hospital Springfield, and will service a range of specialties such as medical/surgical, ICU, maternity, paediatrics, and emergency. Requirements

  • A degree in Social Work with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Experience delivering social work services in an acute health setting (hospital experience desirable), supporting patients with complex medical and social issues
  • Demonstrated clinical practice skills and sound clinical judgement in providing high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with patients and carers
  • Ability or willingness to rapidly develop skills in quality and service improvement activities that enhance clinical outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Delivering routine social work services to achieve optimal patient outcomes, and applying clinical judgement to assess and support patients with more complex medical conditions, under clinical supervision as required
  • Managing an appropriate caseload using strong time management and prioritisation skills
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional standards and organisational policy
  • Collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, families, and carers to facilitate holistic, patient-centred care
  • Identifying, developing, and engaging in quality and service improvement initiatives to enhance clinical services and patient outcomes
  • Providing direction to social work assistants and students
  • Participating in continuing professional development to maintain and enhance clinical expertise
  • Promoting the role and value of the social work service within the wider healthcare team
