About The Position

They are the link between home, school and community in providing direct and indirect services to students, families and school staff in order to promote and support students’ academic, social, emotional and personal success by providing specialized services. Job Summary: Teach curriculum of Independent School District 196. Develop and demonstrate culturally responsive practices that lead to equitable outcomes for all students, particularly those groups of students that are overrepresented in special education. Demonstrate proactive response to support students with emotional regulation difficulties . Provide instruction in strategies to support students in developing social emotional skills for success. Use assessment tools to identify and eliminate barriers to student success. Collaborate, consult and coordinate with school staff, families, community agencies and other professionals in order to meet student and family needs. Provide crisis prevention and intervention to students and families. Address mental and emotional health in our student population by providing direct services, staff/parent consultation or by making a referral to an appropriate outside agency. Advocate for students with disabilities to ensure high levels of achievement. Promote and develop strong communication and collaboration with staff, parents and other professionals. Other duties as assigned by your Principal. Carry out responsibilities as defined by the master contract.

Requirements

Ability to obtain a licensure from Minnesota Board of Social Work or eligible for licensure through Professional Education Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB).
Strong general education background.
Experience working with and providing service to persons of diverse cultures, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Evidence of a growth mindset and ability to accelerate growth in academic and social/emotional skills using a strengths based model.
Ability to work efficiently, effectively, and cooperatively with multidisciplinary teams.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to relate positively to students, staff, and community.
Experience working in a school setting or with children ages birth through 21.
Ability to follow directions and procedures and facilitate collaborative teaming around students.
Ability to collaborate with nursing staff to support and perform the necessary delegated health tasks.
Ability to direct the work of paraprofessionals and an understanding of practices for training and supporting paraprofessionals.
Knowledge of best practices in the field of special education and implementation strategies for sensory activities, positive behavior support, academic instruction, development of routines, etc.
Willingness to complete training in Professional Crisis Management(PCM) and implement restrictive procedures, if needed.
Thorough understanding of the laws, rules and regulations of special education.
The Minnesota Board of Social Work requires all practicing social workers to hold one of the four levels of licensure: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
School Social Work license obtained through the Minnesota Department of Education.
School Social Workers adhere to a Code of Ethics set forth by the National Association of Social Workers.
