About The Position
The school social worker will address the psychological and social well-being of students. The social worker will facilitate communication and connection between home and school, working to remove barriers to educational success. Within the community, the social worker will help families obtain needed services. In the school setting, the social worker will provide individual and group intervention to children who are experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioral issues which interfere with academic progress ; will collaborate with truancy workers, teachers, parents and school staff to address attendance problems as well. The social worker will participate in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process as required and will participate in problem solving throughout the prevention and intervention process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in social work
- valid State Of New Mexico Social Worker license and a valid license as a Social Worker as established by the New Mexico Public Education Department
Responsibilities
- Provide counseling in family, group or individual settings
- Aids in the identification of students needs in the school setting
- Conduct functional behavioral assessment and develop behavioral intervention plans
- Interprets students social/emotional needs to appropriate school personnel
- Collaboration in student assistance teams
- Serve as an advocate for students and their families
- Maintain a current knowledge of community resources
- Utilize the services of various community agencies
- Complies with all documentation and reporting procedures as required
- Participates in in-service programs as required
- Serve as a member of the district crisis team
- Performs other duties as assigned
