About The Position

YAMA is seeking a dedicated and community-centered Social Worker to provide direct services to community members from our Bronx headquarters and in the field. The Social Worker will assist individuals and families in accessing social services and public benefits, provide case management support, and ensure accurate tracking and documentation of all client cases. This role requires strong familiarity with NYC’s social service systems, particularly the NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA), and a commitment to serving immigrant communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience working with NYC social services and NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA)
  • Strong case management, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work both in an office setting and in the field
  • Commitment to serving immigrant and underserved communities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Arabic and English
  • Experience working in a community-based organization
  • Familiarity with benefits screening tools and case management databases

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intakes, assessments, and referrals for individuals and families seeking social services and public benefits
  • Assist clients with applications and recertifications for benefits including SNAP, Cash Assistance, Medicaid, One-Shot Deals, and other HRA-administered programs
  • Provide in-field support by accompanying clients to appointments at HRA offices, community agencies, and other service providers as needed
  • Deliver culturally and linguistically responsive services, working with interpretation support when necessary
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential case records for every client served
  • Track client progress, follow-ups, outcomes, and service referrals using YAMA’s case management systems
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements tied to funding sources
  • Prepare case summaries and program data for internal and external reporting
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource on NYC social service systems, with a strong focus on HRA policies and procedures
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to resolve benefit issues, delays, denials, or compliance challenges
  • Stay up to date on changes in eligibility rules, documentation requirements, and city/state policies
  • Work closely with YAMA program staff to coordinate services and referrals
  • Build and maintain relationships with local service providers, legal partners, and government agencies
  • Participate in community outreach events, workshops, and information sessions as needed
